We have an Equallogic PS6110 that is being used by two clustered SQL servers, running 2012 R2. I'm seeing a lot of "iSCSI login error 0x490 when connecting to vss-control volume for group xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx", when I look on the GM, this isn't configured for any access. I didn't set these up so I'm not sure why this is the case. However these servers are also being backed up by a different backup solution, so I'm a little leery of fixing this by enabling access on the SAN. Is there anyway in the Auto-Snap manager I can keep it from trying to access the VDS/VSS on the san? Or would I be better off to just enable basic access and see what happens?

Multiple SAN HQ's for resilience / DR?
Hi
Can I have more than 1 SAN HQ server monitoring my 6 groups?
We are rethinking our DR and rather than restoring VM's, I'd like to just have 2 SAN HQ instances running from different sites.
Thanks

Chaning dedicated management ip question
Hi
We use out of band management on our dell equalogic san. I have attached a screenshot.
The dedicated management IP has 10.8.0.17. 10.8.0.x is our management network. For some reasons I need to change the network and Enable dedicated management on IP for example 10.11.0.17. Can we assign an IP from a pool 10.11.0.x which is our san IP and use it as a dedicated management IP?
Thanks
Paras.
Upgrade Firmware PS 6010
After updating the firmware of an EQL PS 6010 to version 9.0.9 it behaves with very low performance?
Do you have an idea what may be happening?
I am working with hyper-v windows 2012 and update the HIT to version 4.8.
The vms work very slow in this storage.
Upgrading PS6500 from 7.0.9 to latest and VMware 6.5U1
We have a nest of two PS6500 (10k and 7k2) which are in support and running our VMware clusters (2 clusters each of three R720s). The PS6500 firmware is currently 7.0.9 on both and as we are upgrading VMware to 6.5U1 I am assuming that to keep MEM compatibility we have to upgrade the firmware to v9.1.xx in steps as described on the support site, and install MEM 1.5.
I have several questions:
- I can use the EQL Update Manager to update the offline controller and then fail over to upgrade the second. During the failover time the iSCSI connections will "fail" and have to login again. iSCSI connections are about 250 to each and our IOPS are low (300 peaking to 1k) according to SanHQ.
Q. I'm assuming that we can do this production system upgrade without having to shutdown any VMs? I can shutdown roughly half during our quiet period but other VMs are somewhat essential and I plan to keep them up. (Yes, we have backups!)
2. As we upgrade each VMware host, MEM v1.5 needs to get installed and configured on the host.
Q. Other hosts will continue to work with 1.2 (or 1.3, I forget which) despite the firmware upgrade? If not then I assume the performance will be degraded during this VMware update period?
3. What can go wrong!
Q. I'm assuming that a failover could fail if there was a Controller issue but is there any way to test this in advance? Can I failure over the controllers via the Group Manager to "pretest" the controllers?
Finally I must say that after 5-years of use these PS6500s have just worked (knock on wood).

Multipathing to PS6110
We've got a single PS6110 with dual Type 14 controllers doing active/standby, this is dedicated to two windows 2012 R2 servers running a SQL cluster. The servers have two iSCSI dedicated nics (the whole iscsi network is on it's own isolated hardware) that run at 10g. The Servers are configured for multipathing, however the Type14 is a single 10 gig connection so I'm wondering if this is the proper configuration. Ran a disk speed test agasint a small volume I set up and mounted to one of the servers and were only seeing around 240mb/s and we are getting some pretty high read latency through out the day. IOP count on the SAN is low. Network through put, while it says 10gig is next to nothing on average. Jumbo frames is on and the nics have been configured per dells best practices guide. I'm wondering if upgrading to a Type 15 controller would enable true multi pathing to the san since it's got dual 10 gig SFP+ connections?
change ip address equallogic VSM
Hi brothers and sisters, Is there a way to change the VSM ip address? is a kind of weird I couldn't find any info about it. I'm running Dell EqualLogic Virtual Storage manager Version 3.5.3.10 but after a network ip addressing change in the esxi and vcenter, I couldn't change the VSM ip address to new network segment.
Some one can put me in the right direction to solve this issue.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
PD: I got EqualLogic Virtual Storage Manager: Installation Considerations and Datastores Manager but there's nothing about to change ip address.
Dell PS Series SAN firmware v8.1.13 and v9.1.4 released
The PS FW Maintenance Web Releases V8.1.13 and V9.1.4 are now available in the EQL Support Page.
These firmware versions are general releases and these can be downloaded by any customers having access to EQL support page.
Key fixes gone into these are:
- Under rare circumstances, a PS4210, PS6210 or PS6610 array rebooted, indicating an icache error. Firmware has been improved to re-validate the condition before restarting the
- Under rare circumstances, for example, if a 10 GB PS array was connected to a 1 GB switch, either the PS4210, PS6210 or PS6610 array or the secondary controller rebooted.
- Under rare circumstances, an array rebooted unexpectedly with QRQ error.
- Under extremely rare circumstances, a PS6510 array lacked passive control module redundancy, but firmware allowed user to failover. Firmware will now warn instead with a message.
- While creating replication schedules, extra characters may have spuriously been appended to the partner name.
- During a SAN power-up, a firmware update to version 9.1, or a controller failover, the firmware code was changed to offline a volume affected by "missing pages", instead of halting the group functionality to maintain initiator's access to unaffected volumes.
- During a firmware update to version 9.1, orphan replication information for deleted partnerships might have prevented the upgraded array from accommodating initiator sessions while an internal process frequently respawned.
PS6100 - b2b_shutdown_link: Secondary exceeded b2b link reboot count
Hi All,
Getting an error i've never seen before on our secondary (standby) controller in a PS6100. I'm guessing the controller has died, but there are no amber lights on it or anything, and no indication that anything is wrong from the CLI except this message:
b2b_shutdown_link: Secondary exceeded b2b link reboot count
Primary controller knows the secondary is down, normal errors associated with that condition do appear.
I wonder if there's a way to clear the reboot loop counter. I know how to do it on an IBM DS system...Any thoughts? Thanks!

Remove Default Storage Pool of Ex-Member
Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting here and I hope someone can help me clarify the following, I have a group composed of two old PS6100 and recently I added a PS6210 as it was going to be part of the same group however I had to remove it to make some test with the Storage in an isolated environment.
The "problem" I see now is that in my original Group I was left with a (default) Storage Pool that belonged to the PS6210 I removed, I have searched for a way to delete it or make one of the other two Pools I have the default but haven't had any luck so far, technically speaking I dont have any issues with assigning LUNs or other tasks but I would like to leave the Group "clean" of unnecessary information, from what I have investigated it seems this is not possible but would like to get an answer here.
Regards!

DELL Equallogic 6110. The RAID set lost blocks.
Hello all,
We`ve out of support 4 Dell Equallogic arrays (2x4110, 2x6110). We have of course problems with C2F modules on 6110, but this is not a problem that I face right now.
We`ve have on group with all arrays, Pool1 with volumes is on one PS4110 and PS6110, next PS4110 and PS6110 is Pool2.
I`ve set SyncRep between Pools on one test volume, but I`ve made restart of one controller on a arrays which is receiving SyncRep Volume. It cause diffrent then usual restart of array, after one minute CLI it says that array is not configured. I was wating on status change about 5 min but with no change was visible in CLI, then I decided to restart again opne of the controller, Array back to life but I receive that I`ve RAID set lost blocks.
There is no volume on that array in group because I`ve stop canceled SyncRep between pools.
I`ve no clue how to repair "RAID set lost block" issue without any volume on it?
Anyone? :)
There is no data lost in this case. This was test Syncrep prepared nad as I see this was good decision :)
Thanks in advance in any answer.

Upgrading Firmware Vertical Failover question
Hi Community,
Currently, 2 arrays in our rack are in vertical failover mode due to switch maintenance a few months back. Will I have any issues upgrading these arrays while they're in vertical mode?
Virtual Volumes
Hi All,
I am finally getting around to learn about VVOLs on my EQL Array. I created a 10TB SC but it tells me that the logical size is 100TB and under vSphere it's capacity shows 100TB?
Can someone please explain this to me, and also is there good docs to read up on EQL and VVOLs.
I have read the standard documents i could find but if there is more that would be good.
Thanks

Shrinking Space, Creating Volumes & Disk Management Problems
I have created two new volumes in preparation for configuring SQL Failovers. To do this, I needed to free up some space. Accordingly, I set a volume off-line, SSH'ed to the SAN Group and shrank the volume via the CLI. Put the volume back on line. Now I had more space.
I created the volumes and connected the iSCSI initiators. Worked OK on Host #1.
Here are my problems:
1) The volume that I shrank still shows up in Disk Management in its original size. Moreover, the Volume Label is different than the Volume name. How do I correct these?
2) I can see the two new volumes on Host #1 but on Hosts #2 and #3 they show up as Inactive in the iSCSI initiator. When I try to connect them, I get a :Authorization Failure" message.
Pointers to documentation or Videos welcome.
Thanks.
latest firmware compatible with 7.0.10
I've tried looking on the Dell site and couldn't find a definitive answer. What is the latest firmware that is still compatible with 7.0.10? I have 1 array in the group that is currently empty and I want to update the firmware on that and then migrate volumes from the other arrays to the upgraded array so that I can then update the controller firmware on those. Any info is greatly appreciated.
thanks!
Active control module has failed
I had this message in the controllers information box:
How do i proceed to put the secondary control module to work?
And do i need to replace the failed control module to a new one? or only change the battery?
Thanks
