PS4000 doesn't see newly added secondary controller

We purchased a refurb type-8 controller for our PS4000 in our sandbox cluster.  After installation, it is not recognized.  "show enclosure" or "show controller" do not report it as being seen, and the GUI shows a red X over it.

We were going to install it and then upgrade the firmware since we're not sure what firmware it is on.  Is there a way to install the firmware directly onto the CF Card?

We looked for documentation on adding a new controller and any special steps we needed to take, but came up empty.

Any help is appreciated.

EqualLogic 15TB LUN limit

I am kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have a Windows 2012 server with a volume that is almost full at 15TB. The data in the volume is thousands of individual folders with millions of small image files. I was thinking of using either Windows Spanned Volume or a Windows Striped Volume to circumvent the EqualLogic 15TB limit. I know this is not recommended procedure, but can anyone tell me if there are some inherent issues with EqualLogic and using one of these methods or which method is the lesser of the two evils?

Firmware upgrade on newly installed secondary PS4000 controller

Just installed a secondary PS4000 controller and the cache has been syncing for about 5 hours.  How long does this usually take?

We also need to upgrade from 5.2.1 to 9.0.2 and we have the following staged to update via FTP:

6.0.5
7.1.12
8.1.4
9.0.2

Shouldn't we just be able to run through these using the FTP/CLI update technique?

Group Consolidation

We currently have two PS4100s in a group and would like to add a PS6000 to consolidate and give us more space.  Can we do this?  If so, once added we want to configure RAID 10 on the PS6000 and create a new storage pool for the RAID device.  Does sound correct?

Hello

What is the best choice for creating LUN for ReFS disks? 512 bytes or 4K bytes ? The scope is VMs hosted by Windows 2016 Hyper-V cluster. Storage are EqualLogic PS6100.

Thanks

Initial Setup for EQ 6210V

Hello All,

We've downloaded the configuration guide, but it doesn't make this step clear:

To set the initial mgmt interface, which appears to be eth2, does this require a serial connection only or can it be done via network?

Also, the link to the administrator's guide in the configuration guide does not work, is there another resource for this?

Thanks.

Need help with Dell Storage Manager not being able to connect to EQL PS Group

I recently upgraded our Data Collector and Enterprise Manager Client to Dell Storage Manager 2016 R2 [Build: 16.2.1.228]. With this new version, Dell added the ability to connect to Equallogic PS series arrays, so long as they are on the right firmware.

I have two PS arrays that I want to add to Storage Manager. The first one is a PS4110 array in our M1000E chassis. I was able to add that PS group to Storage Manager. But when I try to add the PS6210X, I get an error that says "unable to add PS Group". No other information is provided. Both arrays are on the same firmware version 7.17. I can ping the problem array from the server that runs the data collector. If Java was installed, I could even access the web gui of that array using IE. Both of those arrays management IP's are on the same subnet.

What am I missing?

I posted this on the Compellent forum and didn't get any replies so I'm posting it here as well.

NFS4 bad sequence-id errors

I have an FS7610 setup with some unix style containers that are being mounted via NFS4 to a number of Linux (CentOS 6.6 - 6.8) client machines.  Looking through my kernel messages, I'm seeing a bunch of sporadic NFS errors.

This is on a closed network, so I can't just copy and paste my logs here, but essentially the error is:

<hostname> kernel: NFS: v4 server <servername> returned a bad sequence-id error!

I found a redhat article (here) regarding this error when connecting to a NetApp. The article states that this is pretty much a generic error and to get a real handle on this, I need to run tcpdump to grab some packets.  I'm not an expert on the inner workings of NFS, so the packet inspection likely won't help me much.

I'm hoping someone else here has seen this or something similar and can provide some help.

offline (missing pages)

Around 07:30 this morning we had a lun on a tiered system go offline due to missing pages. Other luns are still online, we have 10 snapshots of this offline lun. I'm worried that our san may be having issues (like deterioration due to age) but we have no other error or alerting messages (other than the failed lun)

The SAN is comprised of a PS6510 and PS6110XV version 7.2.1

Thank you in advance.

Remote NAS Cluster Not Available? (Replication)

$

Hi all,

First time post here, but I'll do my best! I've been setting up replication between my primary site and DR site. I've got all networks (iSCSI, Client, and Management) going through two layer 3 switches. Those switches carry all VLAN's on a trunk and connectivity works as of now.

When I "Test Partnership" on my primary to my DR it works almost immediately, but when I "Test Partnership" on my DR to my primary it hangs. It never fails or passes at all, I've even gone into an SSH session and checked it there and it essentially looks like it's eternally "in-progress".

So far I've SSH'd into each interface and pinged across the network, all pings successful so I'm not sure it's a connectivity issue...

Any ideas?

PS6010XV Control Module Battery High Temperature Warnings

I am getting Event Log entries on my out-of-warranty EqualLogic PS6010XV toggling between:

28.3.114 Control module 0 battery sensor temperature of 46C is above the warning threshold of 45C.

and

28.2.29  High-temperature sensor reading is now within operating limits.

The other control module battery is at 39C.

1) Can I temporarily raise the warning threshold to stop the hundreds of email messages per day I'm getting?

2) Can I replace the battery on a control module?

Thank you for your help.

HIT v4.8 with Firmware v9

$

We're currently 2 EQL groups, all running firmware v8.1.4, and a mixture of Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 servers. We're keen to move to firmware v9.0.3 to assist with integration with some new on-site Compellant infrastructure, but I notice that HIT kit v4.9 won't install on Server 2008 R2.

If I upgrade the groups to firmware v9.0.3, can I still access the iSCSI volumes from Server 2008 R2 until we organise an upgrade of the Windows OS?

Replication supported firmware

Hi

Is there any information about the firmware versions between replication primary and target?

We found the matrix but v8 or v9 isn't included in that.

Currently we plan to add new PS6210XS and make replication partnerships with PS6210E(v7.1.9) which has already replication partner with current storage group(PS 6210X v7.1.9).

Do we have to upgrade the firmware of backup storage?

Thanks

PS4000 Hard Drive limits

Hi all,

I have a PS4000 with Firmware V8.0.5.

I know that it is in EoL, but can someone tell me if there is any capacity limits on hard drive?

I tried to use 16 disks of 4TB capacity each, but the PS4000 only detects 1,64TB per disks (at least, this is what I can see on the web console).

Any idea why ?

Thanks a lot,

GE

vSphere 6.0 EqualLogic Mem 1.4

I recently upgraded our vSphere environment from 5.5 to 6.0. Before the upgrade, we updated our EqualLogic and the VMware Intregration tools to the latest firmware version and software version. Prior to upgrading to vSphere 6, our Dell Mem was already on 1.4. After looking at the different version, do I need to uninstall the Dell Mem 1.4 and reinstall the vSphere 6 Dell Mem 1.4 version? I tried just a regular upgrade, but I get a return saying I'm running the latest version.

All in all, is it okay to continue running the "dell-eql-mem-esx5-1.4.0.426823" on esxi 6? Or, Do I need to uninstall to reinstall "dell-eql-mem-esx6-1.4.0.426823"?

Dell Equallogic MEM 1.4 VUM Error "invalid vendor code"

Here is a fix for the following error message in VUM: "Invalid vendor code del in patch metadata, another vendor code with different capitalization already exists in database. Check the Update Manager log files for more details."

  1. Unzip dell-eql-mem-esx6-1.4.0.426823.zip (or similarly named file)
  2. Edit index.xml
  3. Change line 4 (ie. code tag) from "del" to "DELL" (no quotes)
  4. Zip all previously unziped files back into the originally named file.

I used the MEM 1.3 patch as a template and tested the modified MEM 1.4 on vmware 6.5.

Replication Compatibility

Can anyone point me in the right direction for replication compatibility between different model EqualLogics?

Im wanting to add a replication partner to my current SAN infrastructure as an extra level of backup

We have x2 SAN's which are not in the same group, these are:

PS4100

PS6100

Im looking to replicate data off both of them, or at least the PS4100. Can this even be done and if so would I need the same model SAN to act as the replica partner?

We are using iSCSI

Thanks

Home LAB: Can I use Type 7 Controllers in a PS6010 Chassis?

$

I purchased a PS6010 Chassis for my home lab and after trying to get a reasonably priced Type 10 Controller and being unsuccessful I have purchased a Type 7 as it is my understanding that both of these chassis are interchangeable. Needless to say the Controller shows with a green and Red light active on the controller? I have also not been able to get a console session established and was wondering if this is due to the combination of the PS6010 and Type 7 controller.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
