PS6000 v7.0.9
2 host Server 2012 R2 Hyper V Cluster
Volume is 620GB
Group manager reports 525GB in use
Windows Disk managment and Failover cluster manager both report 349GB in use.
Why the difference and where/how to I free up those 175GB?

Is there a way to confirm the diskzero process has completed successfully?
I kicked off the DiskZero process on my P6000 Equalogic SAN a couple of weeks ago and every time I try to run it again, it says the process has already started. Its' been this way for over a week.
I cant tell whether the diskzero process keeps cycling over and over again or if it will eventually end. If it does eventually end - is there anyway to confirm it's status?
Hi,
we have recently deployed a PS6610 Array with 14 ssd drives and 70 NLSAS drives. Our understanding is that auto tiering will occur within the same enclosure on the different HDD types.
All is working fine but we would like to know were the data is residing, i.e percentage on SDD and percentage on NL-SAS, and possibly the hot volumes and cold volumes.
I have looked through group manager but I do not seem to be able to find this information.
Am I missing something or do I need to use other tools to view this information,
We would also like to prioritize SSD access to some volumes. is this possible?

We are running vSphere 6.1 and have multipe EQL storage units.
With Dell Virtual Storage Manager for VMWare it is possible to create scheduled replicas on another EQL unit
Question: Does DELL VSM for VMWare create an Application aware/quiesced replica of e.g. SQL or Exchange volumes that exist in the vmware VM?
Hello:
I have 3 PS6110 boxes, all currently running V7.1.11. I see that there are 3 different upgrades available:
V7.1.14
V8.1.6
V9.0.3
How do I choose which one I should go with? Why go with V7 vs V8 vs V9?

Hello, my PS4000XV show 2 disks failure. The EqualLogis is out of warranty. I need to purchase the disks (450GB SAS 15K RPM, 3.5"). Where I find it in Miami, Dell Store or other distributor in this zone?
Thanks for your help!!!
I have a Dell FS7600 NAS. I have mapped this to both my NIS server and my AD. When I try to manually map a unix user to a windows user, it fails.
On the Authentication tab of the NAS cluster under Group configuration, I am trying to manually map a user. I can enter a unix user, then search and it finds the user in the correct NIS domain. similarly, I can enter a windows user and search and find it on the AD.
When I click map user, it says user not found.
When I try automatic mapping, nothing happens.
Any ideas?
Tim
Hi,
We have recently installed a new SAN, which is on the new firmware 8.1.6 and now within SAN Headquarters it is showing the drives in it as Unknown (Unrecognised Disk Information) and therefore the predicted IOPS for the SAN is not working.
We have another PS4210 that is running F/W 8.1.4 and this is showing fine.
Is this an issue with the more recent firmware? Would the version 9 F/W work better?
SAN HQ is latest version 3.2.0.8291
Thanks,
Gary
Hi,
I was wondering if there is an HIT Kit for Windows Server 2016 Core? I noticed that version 4.9.0 does not include Windows 2016.
Thanks!
I performed the following steps:
1) Logged on to the server and got the Initiator Name
2) Logged on to our Equallogic system
3) Created a new volume that is presented to the name from step 1
4) Went back to the server
5) Entered the SAN IP in the Target field and clicked n Quick Connect
6) I get an error stating "Connection Failed"
7) Verified that Windows Firewall is turned off
8) Confirmed that the SAN IP is in the Discovery tab.
I am not sure why the server will not see the new volume that I presented.
Dear Forumers,
Does anyone know what the dates are for the End-of-Life for the following Dell EqualLogic units:
PS4000X and PS6100
Thanks!!
Hello,
recently I have added a new storage array to an existing SAN group which contains already a member with encryption.
The new SAN member was added to the same storage pool, I noticed that the storage pool is showing a partial encryption icon.
can someone please tell me is this will cause any misfunctioning or degraded performance ?
Should I create a separate storage pool for each SAN member ?
Thanks in advance.
On arrays which support vertical port failover, I understand that it's important to connect the active and passive CMs to different switches, so that a switch failure will trigger a vertical failover event.
However, all the documentation I have read (including, for example, this one: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-solutions/w/oracle_solutions/1244.how-to-cable-an-equallogic-array
Why is this? The only justification I could find was from the document entitled "BP1031-Blade-Switch-Integration-final.pdf" which includes: "Each array member controller connects to both PC7048 switches for SAN fabric redundancy." That's a little vague.
With vertical port failover, why not connect all the NICs on one CM to one switch, and all the NICs on the other CM to the other switch? The only conceivable scenario where this would be a problem is if you lost one switch AND one CM.
Or am I missing something?
Thanks!
I have been getting notifications from my EqualLogic SAN forever and haven't found a solution. Here;s the message:
AFAIK, this array should be communicating. Pings, etc work.
Haven't found a solution yet.
Any thoughts from the community?
Thanks to all for looking!
Gregg
Hey all
- Dell Equallogic PS6100 unit.
- 1 of 2 Controller module's had a dead battery and we replaced it purchasing one from Dell.
- Took the old one out and confirmed the Secondary Controller is active and running connections.
- Put the replacement controller in and can see it in the GUI successfully.
- Bunch of warnings/errors in the GUI, some still active: Control Module Cache is syncing (24 hours).
- The new replacement card has Firmware 5.1.2 on it. Whenever I try to update the firmware I get this error 'Inter-controller communications failure - 99'. I have tried through CLI and GUI and tried many FW versions, as its 5.1.2 I tried firmware 5.2.9 (even though 9.0.3 is the latest) and still got the error.
- I can't find a way to update firmware on just 1 of the Controller Modules. The other healthy active Module is running 9.0.3. I'm just trying to update the firmware on my new replacement controller but can't get it working! Help please :) Thanks
Hi,
I have two PS 6210X units sharing a RAID6 storage pool.
Both units are currently running FW 7.0.4 and i am looking to get them up to the latest version.
I am seeing on conflicting information about the upgrade paths. Can i go directly to V9.0.3 or do i need to go to 8.1 > 9.0.3
Thanks in advance.
Hi All,
Truth be told I am just guessing from the furious disk activity that a rebuild might be going on.
The data center admins powered off (not regularly though) the storage by just switching off the UPS that the unit is connected to.
So today after one such power off, the network ports on the storage (and the switch) stopped lighting up their LEDs. The storage was unreachable and also unaccessible to the iSCSI target mapped to it.
The LEDs on the back of the 2x controllers were still OK though. Unfortunately it is a remote site and I couldn't get a DB9 cable and it seems they never set up the management port. I tried the integration tools but it didn't discover any uninitialised arrays.
My questions are:
1. Is it likely that a rebuild is going on? Initially only one disk was going crazy but after several hours the others have joined it.
2. Assuming a rebuild is going on, is it the expected behaviour for the storage to become completely inaccessible?
3. Any way to access the storage via the management port?
4. The array has 12x 3TB. I don't know how many of the disks were in use though. Any idea of how long it would take assuming it's going through a rebuild?
Thanks!
Now that vSphere 6.5 is out, is there an ETA on an updated VSM that is supported/compatible with it?
It seems that we have to wait to upgrade till then since we're using VVOLs. :)
Hello:
We are looking at upgrading our old Oracle VM 2.2.2 setup to Oracle VM 3.4.2. This is a major undertaking, to say the least. The 2.2.2 version uses /etc/multipath.conf to configure multiple paths to the EQL boxes. The best I can tell for VM 3.4.2 is that they also suggest configuring /etc/multipath.conf, but they also say that you can install "storage vendor supported" software on the system. The example they give is Powerpath for EMC.
My question is: Has anybody ever loaded a HIT kit on a V3 Oracle VM Server/Oracle VM Manager? Does anybody know of any reason why we shouldn't go that route instead of old-fashioned multipath?
Thanks.

Hi. We have one PS6210XS hybrid and two PS6210X models in a group. They are all running firmware 8.1.4, and they are all in separate pools. The XS is running RAID6 Accelerated and the X models are running RAID6. These models will all play well together in one pool despite the accelerated/non-accelerated raid levels, correct?
Also, the members are using about 30TB out of the 58TB available, but it isn't evenly distributed. I know I can't delete the Default pool, but I want to put everything into one of the other pools. If I can move the Pool2 member into Pool1 (and it does look like I have enough space in Pool1 to do that), then I can move the default pool member into Pool1 and leave Default empty, correct?
ETA: And delete Pool2 after that member gets moved into Pool1, before moving the default pool member.
Thanks.
