Equal Logic PS100 Hyper V 2008 R2 Hyper V 2012

Hello,

I am a IT administrator for a Non Profit organization that was donated a Equal Logic PS100 array that is still is good shape.  I know that it is old but I believe that is still have some usefulness to me.  In my organization I am running Hyper V 2008 R2 host Dell R720\ Hyper V 2012 Dell R410.  Its Guests are a SQL, Vworkspace, RDP, Appassure\Rapid Recovery, File Server, Domain controller all storage of the VM's are local to the hosts.

Between these two hosts I would like to get some advice  for proper configuration of the Equal Logic so I can began to move some of the VM's to it.

I have reset  the Equallogic  and was going to began creating Volumes\LUN when I realized that I need some advice on creating the volumes.  

I have a Procurve gigabit switch with a SAN and Admin Vlan created on it.

I have a copy and license for  SCVVM 2012 R2 since I was not sure if I need to CSV( I have not experience with this) but not installed anywhere yet..

Rapid Recovery backs up and replicates offsite nightly so I need advice on if I need to use snapshots on the Equal Logic.

I hope I can start a discussion on configuration of the Equal Logic and best practice for me to config it and move my VM's onto it.\

could not bind vmk to iSCSI adapaters - vSphere 6.0

Hello 
I am trying to configure a new switch using the setup.pl
I run into the error about binding the vmk to the iSCSI adapater

I am using a windows machine and saw about the SSL problem 

Can anyone explain what i need to do, to make this work

Hello

is there a way to manually remove a server from the SAN HEADQUARTERS server list in EQL group manager configuration ?

there are two sanhq servers that been gone for a while and i can seem to find an easy way to remove them from the list since i started having issues with supportassitant not being able to upload logs

Controller Config Syncing

I have a PS3000 running firmware 6.0.6. I first configured my active controller and everything appears to be working well with it. When I serial into the standby controller though, it has none of the configuration and thinks I need to do a fresh setup. How long after you make changes on the primary controller does the secondary receive those changes? Is there anyway to tell that the secondary is "up to date" with the primary so if there is a failure, it should transition nicely?

Virtual Storage Manager - startTime does not meet the minimum value of 0 error

Hi,


Has anyone got a fix for the region problem relating to the scheduling?


When trying to add or edit a schedule, we get the following error.

Title: Too Small
Text: startTime does not meet the minimum value of 0

From what another user said it was impacting non US customers and the workaround was to change region of the computer you were using. I've tried this and it doesn't work.


This error is now a few years old.

EqualLogic PS4000 EX HD fail and replace

Dear Experts,

I am using Server DELL EqualLogic PS4000 EX. Recently i make replacement a faulty HD.  Server show that new HD status is Spare. However its light is off, but not green. I am wondering new HD is working or not. The only difference is that new HD have different firmware from the other.

i have two servers R520 connected to two switches power connect 6224 connected to PS4200 storage

and another replica storage connected to the main storage lake in the figure belwo

i am using the one 10G link from each server connected to the 10G ports on switch. also 10 G links from switch1 to module 0 and switch2 to module 1. and the other links from servers to switches and from switches to storage is 1G? i faced problems with this scenario that server two cannot see the storage because its connected to module 1 (passive).

what i am going to do is connecting the 10G links from both switches to module 0 (active) and the 1 g links from switch to module 1 (passive).

correct me if im wrong and any suggestion for this connection since its limited to two 10G modules on each switch. one for the server and the other for storage controller.????????

Convert RAID 10 (no-spares) to RAID 6 accelerated

Hello all,

Is there any way to convert a RAID 10 (no-spares) array to RAID 6 accelerated? The GUI says that the selected conversion is not supported. The array is only 1/3 full so I was hoping there is some way to resize the array and make a smaller new array that can be gradually resized to takeover the old space as I would prefer not to reinitialize the entire array.

Equallogic volume distribution RAID 6 - RAID 50

Hello hope you can help.

I have two Dell Equallogic SANs one running RAID 50 one running RAID 6. All the volumes were initially on the RAID 50 SAN.

I changed the RAID preference on a volume to RAID 6 and over the course of a day it moved over to the SAN running RAID 6. 

My question is it still says in process even though it has moved it all over. 

Am i missing something?

EqualLogic 6110 and 6210

Have a PS6110 with a Type 14 controller and 2TB drives and a PS6210 with a Type 15 controller and 600GB drives.

Could I replace the 600GB drives in the PS6210 with the 2TB drives from the PS6110 and get rid of the PS6110?

PS5000e member offline - status light indicator light?

We have an issue with our PS5000e SAN.  It's not a mission-critical device and we are in the process of moving off of it, but we need to get it back online if possible.

This morning the member went completely offline.  I can connect via web UI, but it just says member offline.  Connecting to CLI indicates the same.  All commands in CLI are executing extremely slowly, and occasionally I get warnings like:   "Logger daemon is losing messages because offline disks are generating more events than the daemon can handle."

Unit is in a datacenter 500 miles away, so I had remote hands send me pictures of it.  One drive shows amber, remaining 15 drives all have green lights, so the failed drive shouldn't have caused it to go down.

show recentevents returns nothing.

On the back of the unit, everything looks fine except for one amber next to a label with a wavy line (possible power issue?).  Picture below:

Before I get too much further with taking action I'd like to know what this light means if possible.

SAN HQ Critical Alert - impossible to get logs from PS4100X

Hello.

I have a Dell Equallogic SAN PS4100X v7.0.10 and a SAN HQ server in release 3.0.2.7457.

Yesterday I receive an email which talking about error 14.2

Caution conditions:

  • 7/28/2016 5:17:09 PM
    • [ID: 14.2] Unable to establish connection.
    • The SAN HQ server issued SNMP requests at the group, some or all of which failed.  This condition is likely due to network congestion or failed network connectivity.  The server will retry within 60 seconds.  Check your network connectivity and check that the storage group is online.  If the problem persists, contact your Dell support provider for assistance.

If I run SAN HQ Client I can observe a 14.1 Critical Alert: Unexpected Exception in Service. SAN HQ seems to be connected but there is no logs.

I try to upgrade to 3.2.0.8291 but this is the same issue. Nothing change on our side, and I test a snmpwalk with same community, it's working.

Have you ideas ?

Hitkit installation error visual C++ failed

When installing the host integration toolkit v4.90 in a newly installed server (Windows Server 2012R2). we get an error "the installation of visual c++ redistributable (x386) has failed". We tried deinstalling the other already installed Visual C++ versions, but this did not resolve the issue. Any idea?

During Upgrade process of Dell EqualLogic Host Integration Tools from 4.8.0 we get an error message: Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action CleanDepriicatedShortcuts script error -2147024773, :  Line 28, Column 3,

Don't know what that exectly mean. I tried a new download, but it seems to me it is no error because of bad download of .exe or .iso.

System logs show me the following.

We have one Windows Server 2012 and a Hyper-V 2012 R2 Cluster with several Windows Server 2012 R2. I tried the upgrade on Windows Server 2012.
