9.1.0 EPA vs 9.1.1

Hi is there any difference between 9.1.0 EPA release and 9.1.1 that was released a few days ago?  The release notes don't seem to show any 9.1.1 specific changes.

Thanks.

Shutdown array for shipment

I need to ship a 6210 to another office and the array will be off for several days. Is there anything special I need to do? Seems like I just need to hit the shutdown button in the management Java applet twice (I assume it shuts down the active controller and then the passive will take over so I need to shutdown again). After that I just flip the power switches on the power supplies and I'm good to go?

When the array gets to its destination, plug in power and flip the power switch and array will power on?

I always see a note in the release notes about standby mode and not coming out of standby but that's not an issue here because I'm not turning on that option, right? This is just a clean shutdown and power back on.

snapshot space is at 100% in-use

I have a couple of volumes that are showing that their snapshot space is at 100% in-use but the snapshot tab in group manager does not show any snapshots at all. If I change the snapshot reserve size to 500%, it still says that it is 100% in-use. Has anyone ever seen this, and if so how can I fix this to reflect the correct information or show me the snapshots?

The best way to change the management ip addresses

$

Hello All, our EqualLogic PS4100 has already configured and management IP address, what we need is replace that ip address for other ip address.  What I need to know is that if I disconnect the management interfaces it will  affect my VM, what is the best way to change the management ip addresses.

Thank you all.

Single 6510 with SSD and HDD Drives

This 6510 has 14 400 gig SSD's in it and the rest are all 7.2k 2TB drives.  It's been configured as one big Raid-6 Accelerated set up.  I was wondering if this was the proper way to configure it, or if it would make sense to have it as two separate raid groups, one for SSD and one for HDD.  Will the EQ put the more in demand luns on the SSD's if it see's more IOP requests?

Message "request to initiate a mirror for drive was unsuccessful" after disk failure

I'm sadly managing still nursing along an ancient PS6000 series array. We've had a disk fail, which we have replaced. Within 5 minutes of the initial disk failure we received the message in the subject :

request to initiate a mirror for drive 9 was unsuccessful

Currently the RAID is rebuilding and the replaced disk is reporting healthy, however I don't understand what the message means exactly. I'm guessing that the disk is bad in someway, the array tried to allocate disk 9 to the raid only for it to fail. I can't say for sure but memory tells me that 9 was a hot spare and so I assume that it's just been added to the array, hence this message.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction for the cause of that message?

Is VSM 4.6.0 supported on vSphere 6.5?

I understand MEM 1.4 is fully supported on vSphere 6.5 (confirmed by Donald in an earlier thread).  Does the same apply to VSM 4.6.0?

Thanks.

It appears the download for the newly released Linux HIT kit (1.6) is not working.  All I see is an "unauthorized" button below the terms/agreement on the download page.

iSCSI Multipath Status Active v.s Active (I/O)

Hi all,

I have recently upgraded VMWare ESXi Host from 5.5 to version 6.0.

Overview about our enviroment:

1 vCenter 5.5 - upgraded to vCenter 6

2 ESXi Hosts (5.5) - being upgraded to ESXi 6 (1 host has been upgraded to ESXi 6)

Obviously, I experienced the issue with installing MEM driver 1.4 via Update Manager (as discussed in other threads). But it was resolved by manually install the MEM driver 1.4.

But after the upgrade, I noticed that the Dell Equallogic path status show 'Active' (on ESXi 6.0) instead of showing 'Active (I/O)' (as on ESXi 5.5).

Not sure if any knows the different between those. I have contacted Dell Equallogic support but they only said it's but a cosmetic issues but should not be worried about.

Could you please advise if you have experience on this?

MEM 1.4 on ESXi 6.5

I configured then installed MEM 1.4 on ESXi 6.5 fine (using hardware offload on nics).  After using the setup.pl script I noticed iSCSI was not enabled on ESXi and MTU, delayed ack, login timeout were still at default values.  I've adjusted this all manually however am wondering if there is anything else I should be aware of post-install on ESXi 6.5?  Are there available instructions for ESXi 6.5?  I understand it's officially supported but the MEM 1.4 documentation makes no reference to it.

Thanks!

Windows Volumes Offline after EQL Firmware Upgrades

$

I've had the issue for years and never found a resolution on the windows side but I thought I would try again and see if anyone knows hotfixes or configuration settings to avoid this issue.

When I upgrade equallogic arrays, I power off all virtual machines to avoid connection issues and lost data for the more IO intensive applications like SQL and Exchange. After I do firmware upgrades and I power back on windows machines that have EQL volumes attached to them, I run into the issue where the virtual discs won't come online. If you go into Disk Management, you will see the volumes are connected but offline and you have to manually bring the volumes online and then either restart the services or machine for the SQL databases, exchange, etc. to come back online properly.

The issue only happens when you do a firmware upgrade or restart the arrays. If I shutdown the windows machines or restart them, there is no issue with the volumes coming online properly.

My suspicion is that has to do with some kind of bug or timeout setting causing the volumes to not come online. I just don't know why it only happens when arrays are restarted and not any other time.

If any one knows of a fix or solution, I would appreciate it. It happens on all the different windows server OS from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2 in my environment and only to windows. Vmware always comes back up without issue. I do have the EQL HIT KIT with multipath I/O installed on each of the servers with 4.7.1 on the server 08R2 servers since that where support ends and 4.9 installed on all the servers.

Storage Update Manager - Can't load 9.1.1 on PS4000/4100 group

Tried updating from 9.0.5 to 9.1.1 to see if that helps with some cross platform replication issues we're seeing from an SC4020 to the 4000/4100 group.  4000 controller reboots periodically during replication.

Anyway, when I fire up the latest downloadable Storage Update Manager, it doesn't give me an option for 9.1.1.  Do I need to wait for an updated version?  Or is 9.1.1 not a suggested update?

Earlier I was having issues writing to disk in my VMware environment and received an email notiifcation from SANHQ stating both active and standby controller restarted. I also received a caution that "Controller failed over in member". When I look at the boot time on both controllers from the GUI they both show the same boot time. Does this mean that both controllers rebooted at the same time and if so, what conditions would cause this?

New PS6210 use first and add to pool later

Good afternoon All

I have a 2 unit SAN (PS6210  x 2) and I now have a new 3rd PS6210 - part of my problem is that the Firmware versions are 2 versions different so I can add the new one into the existing pool.  The 2 unit pool is almost full and it would mean quite a lot of disruption to upgrade the firmware straight away.   Is it possible for me to add the new unit as an independent pool, move some of my VMs to it then upgrade the 2 units and then add the new unit into the old pool?  Or would the adding destroy the data on the new pool?

Thanks

Eric

Can't get the VSM to take Storage IP address

$

I'm trying to set up the VSM for the first time in our vsphere environment.  We have an Equalogic 6510 we are testing this out on.  I have the VM appliance installed, have it's management IP configured. I added another NIC for the storage network. However when I go to enable the storage network I constantly get a "Additional route: Incorrect format.  Expected CIDR notation Ex: 192.168.1.1/24" error.  First I was trying it on our 172 storage network, manually typing in the IP address.  Then I tried adding it to our VM Network and having it get a DHCP address and got the same thing.  Manual, DHCP, doesn't matter.  Tosses that error every time.  I should also add that the group IP is on the 172 network, but the management is on the 192.

I just added a new PS4210 array to an existing pool that had one PS4100 in it.. It was my understanding that existing volumes in the group would be spread across the new array.   I'm guessing this is a somewhat slow process.  Is there a way to see the progress of this process?

PS6100 replaced controller due to C2F error. Now controllers stop responding during move?

$

had a  controller 0 error with C2F battery issue. pulled out the SD card and replaced the controller 3 days ago, and ran some testing. new controller was on 7.1.14 and controller 1 was on 7.1.5. So i upgraded to 7.1.5. The other member of the group has both controllers still on 7.1.5.

During the move from maintenance group, back into production, there appears to have been an issue with the one, or both, controllers "not installed" and it ended up taking down all our VMs that were running at the time. After digging into this, i decided to move the member back into maintenance pool, and now I have seen the same errors from both controllers again??

Any ideas? could this be a known issue with this version of firmware when moving the member?
