Vmware ESXi 5.5 MPIO to Equallogic PS6110
Hello,
May I know what is the total number of MPIO I should have for VM host with two NICs configured as iSCSI adapters and connected to two switches. The switches are configured as inter-connected.
This table shows each host has different number of paths.
Host | Connected Targets | Devices | Paths |
A | 22 | 10 | 38 |
B | 14 | 7 | 14 |
C | 21 | 7 | 21 |

Move PS4100 Management IPs to new subnet
I need to move the management IP and eth2 (mgmt) on our PS4100 to another subnet. The eth2 IP is 192.168.34.10 and the Management IP is 192.168.34.9, both of which are on our primary LAN.
The group IP is currently 192.168.200.2 with eth0 and eth1 on 192.168.200.3 and 192.168.200.4. These are connected to a dedicated stand alone LAN for iSCSI traffic and will not change.
What is the proper procedure for changing them? I'm getting errors that say that "there must be at least one member network interface on the same subnet as the management address" when I try to change them.
Thanks!
ST33000650SS Constellation ES.2 Dell discs in a PS6110E
Hi,
We purchased 12 Constellation ES.2 Dell discs (model ST33000650SS 3TB SAS) for use in our PS6110E. The equipment already has 12 Constellation ES.3 discs (model ST3000NM0023). However, when we plug the new disks we get the warning message "One or more drives in array are not approved.". The device has the last firmware applied (9.0.3).
What should be done to allow the equipment to recognize and accept these discs? Unlike other related posts, this issue refers to legitimate Dell discs.
Best regards,
Fabio
PS6100 iSCSI network with Dell switch S4048 not working
Hi all
I am currently replacing some of cisco gigabit switch with Dell s4048 switches. I have two PS6100 series equallogic with gigabit interface as I am replacing cisco switch even current equallogic have gigabit port I am planning to connect with Dell 10GB switch but when I connect equallogic to dell switch it did not work but the same network cable, if I move to cisco switch than it works fine. below are the detail of dell switches. My question here is do I need to do any special configuration to make dell equallogic and dell S4048 work together
> there are two switches and configured with stack. out of 8 equallogic ports from each controller two ports goes to one switches.
> Untaged VLAN is configured to each port
>Flowcontrol rx on tx off
>Spanning-tree rstp edge-port
>MTU: 9216
Looking forward to help.
Kind regards

Dell S4048 Switches not working with Equallogic PC 6100 series
Hi All,
I replaced Cisco switch with Dell s4048 switches recently. There are 2 dell s4048 switch with stack configuration and 2 connection from each Equallogic controller to each switch. Switch ports are configured with VLAN (Untag) and 9216 as MTU the only difference between Cisco switch and dell is Cisco have 1 GB ports and dell have 10GB ports.
I believe port throughput suppose to be auto negotiated and work fine but it is not working, when I move LAN cable to Cisco it works fine.
Do we need any special configuration to make connection establish between 1GB Equallogic port and 10 GB Dell S4048 port?
Looking forward if any one had same issue or any further solution. I am contacting Dell support too but still do not get any reply.
Kind regards
Binaya
Replacing EqualLogic PS6100 with SCV2020 a viable option ?
Hi
How does the scv2020 compare the the EqualLogic Ps6100 series in terms of features / performance ?
Most of our EqualLogic arrays go out of maintenance next year and it's got me thinking about other options.
We currently run the kvm hypervisor with raw iscsi Luns to provide the storage to each vm and I can see us reaching the 1024 connection limit in a pool at some point if we carry on working this way.
We also replicate the volumes.
Does the SCV2020 support one to many replication or is it just peer to peer like EqualLogic ?
Thanks
Questions regarding SanHQ updates, and Client, vs Client and Server installations.
Good Afternoon Everyone!
Please forgive me ahead of time as i'm still relatively new to EQL and SanHQ. My question is related to an update to SANHQ, v3.0.2 to v3.2, that i am currently entertaining prior to firmware updates in the near future, v7.1.5 > 8.1.4 > 9.0. I believe that i have the appropriate files and preparation for the SanHQ portion of the upgrade, however, i am needing some clarification on Client only vs Client & Server installations, since this is a selection that will be made during the install/update process. how exactly would i go about confirming that this is client only, vs client & server installation?
I am fairly certain that it is a C&S installation on a Server 2012 r2 box, however, i'd like to know for sure. Is there a particular configuration, or perhaps a service that i can look for to confirm this?
Per Help>About, the server listed under "Server Name" reads "Default Server", with a rev matching the listed client. In addition, Settings>Server Settings reflects the FQDN of the local host as the host name for "Connection Settings for Client".
Another quick question is, will an update to SanHQ negatively affect productivity in any way?
Thank you in advance!
How do I utilise 2 active NICs on the PS series
We are temporarily going to use a PS series Array by DELL for the SAN in our ESXI environment. It has 2 NICs per controller(there are 2 controllers). We therefore have 4 NICs, which are in redundant pairs. i.e if eth0 fails on controller 1 then this will failover to eth0 on controller 2. They Are 1gb NICs and I like to maximise bandwidth if possible(you can only have 2 active at one time).
The diagram below shows how DELL would configure the SAN network. We would be using MPIO from the ESXI HOST using port binding on two uplinks, but the recommendations for this are active/standby, which means we would only have one active connection at a point in time. How would we achieve the 2 active connections as shown in the diagram below?

NFS4 ACLs and the FS7610
Hello,
I have an Equallogic FS7610 (firmware: 4.0.300098) on which I'm testing out NFS4 ACLs. I'm seeing some strange behavior that I wanted to reach out to the community regarding.
I'm keeping this pretty simple, as we've not typically used NFS4 ACLs (typically just use standard POSIX permissions). I have a folder, which I've set to be wide open for user and group via ACLs (nfs4_setfacl -e <folder name>, apply all permissions for user@ and group@). The actual line is something like
A:d:OWNER@:rwaDdxtTnNcCoy
A:dg:GROUP@:rwaDdxtTnNcCoy
When I look at the standard permissions it looks as if 770 has been applied - great! However, when I go into that directory and try to make a folder, I am told I can't create a folder because said folder already exists. Where it gets strange is the folder is actually created, but the proper permissions are not inherited.
Normally, I would move on with my life, but there appears to be an issue with the CIFS shares ignoring the UNIX permissions unless NFS4 ACLs have been applied.
If you need more information from me, please let me know. Looking forward to hearing if other folks have encountered this or not and what they have done to fix it.
EqualLogic 10Gb
I am posting this in a few places in hopes of a quick and knowledgeable response. We have 4 EqualLogic PS6000, all 1Gb. We are bringing in our first PS6210 10Gb. The issue is we have Cisco Nexus 3K and only have 10Gb uplink ports.
So should we plug the new PS6210 in to the uplink ports at 10Gb or plug them in to the 1Gb standard ports?
The info we have found seems to say no but it seems a waste to not use those ports if we can.
Mixing EQL and VSAN for VM migration
Hi
Our PS's are getting a bit old now, we are considering moving to VSAN (vxRail) in the future across both our DC's. Is it supported to have external EQL groups attached to VSAN nodes for easy migration using Storage vMotion (VMFS to VSAN) _ I'm hoping so long as the new nodes have dedicated NICS for the iscsi, it would be a relatively easy migration.
Thanks
Security Updates
I have been reading through the changelogs in Release Notes for the different firmware version and I have noticed that they don't provide technical information related to security updates. Is there another resource where I can find information about if a specific firmware has fixed specific security vulnerabilities?
Shut down members in a pool
Hello,
Next week we're going to upgrade switches where our Equallogics are connected to so they need to be shutdown. I'd like to ask you few things about shutdown procedure of Equalogic members in a pool. I know that first I need to disconnect all iSCSI connections initiated by the hosts and then shut down and power off each member but...
Do I have to manually offline all the volumes in a pool before shutting down members or they will automatically set to offline after first member shutdown?
Should I shut down then power on each member in a specific order?
Does group leader matter? It should be turned off then power on last or first?
Thank you for the answers in advance!
Best regards,
Damian
Setting up Port Binding Equalogic & Group IP
Hiya,
I am setting up Port Binding on an ESXI host and have 2 VMkernels connected to 2 NICs, which is the correct way, But when specifying the IP address for the initiator do I specify the same Group IP address for each VMkernel

SANHQ
Hi all
We were running SANHQ 3.0.0.7189 on Windows 2012 R2 and it was no polling data from two groups (FW 7.1.5 and FW8.1.3). They both have dedicated mgmt interface and shows as connected on SANHQ.
I have upgraded it to version 3.2.1.8458. SNMP config matches the groups' config.
For some reason it is still no polling data from the groups.
Where could I look into to debug this?
Assistance is much appreciated.
Windows Server 2016 Nano
Hi,
Is there a whitepaper or something that can tell me how to set up MPIO for the Equallogics?
There has to be a way to add the Equallogic Device Hardware ID and to check the box for Add Support for iSCSI Devices in Nano...
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Remove/delete datastore in VMware and Equallogic
hi all,
**************************************************************
9x ESXi5.5 hosts
EQL PS6000 Firmware V5.0.2 (sorry I know very old, etc)
***************************************************************
It has probably been asked before but I cannot find an answer.
just trying to find the right way to remove/delete datastore on VMware then on Equallogic
Basically I have got a volume on EQL presented to 9x ESXi 5.5 hosts. The single VM on the datastore has been deleted and there is nothing there apart from the FDM folder, with single protectedlist file (HA for VM when configured).
From host1, I have "unmount" the datastore (vSphere Client Configuration -- Storage -- Datastores) - From vmkernel log it shows that it has been unmounted.
Then, I have detached the LUN (vSphere Client Configuration -- Storage -- Devices)
~ # esxcli storage core device detached list
Device UID State
------------------------------------ -----
naa.XXXXa0c8f0bebdf1be3dd56faf9YYYYY off
~ # esxcli storage core device detached remove -d naa.XXXXa0c8f0bebdf1be3dd56faf9YYYYY
~ # esxcli storage core device detached list
~ #
I have NOT rescan Host1. Datastore shows (inactive)(unmounted)
I will repeat the process for the other 8x hosts.
My question the is:
Do I then go and "Delete" the datastore from vSphere Client, then "Offline" the Volume in EQL GrpManager, re-scan hosts in vSphere, "Delete" volume in EQL?
Is this the right order?
Thanks in advance
Dell MD32 warning virtual disk not on preffered path
Hello Guys,
I have a dell MD3240 dual controller 12Gb/s SAS and dual 12Gb/s SAS port on Dell Poweredge.
Ubuntu 16 server native linux multipathing and lvm on top.
From the host side all looks good but the storage is allways in warning state complaning that virtual disk not on prefered path. I change to prefered path an after some time it will tresspass again.
Sometimes it will even tresspass from non prefered back to prefered.
Under host port identifiers i can see 3 WWN for one host with 2port SAS. I expect to see 2WWN one for each port. is this correct?
Thank you

EqualLogic VSM and two Virtual Centre Servers
I have two virtual center farms, Production and Dev. They are both accessing the same Equallogic group.
I have the VSM installed on the production group and it is registered fine showing the production Virtual Centre server.
when I go to VSM Home / Manage and vCenter Servers I see the on registered. But the fact that it is a list implies that I can have more than one registered.
Is if possible to register the 2nd Virtual Center using the same VSM, and if so how?
Or do I have to create a 2nd VSM server dedicated to the 2nd VMware farm
Currently running VSM 4.6.0.1242
